Hmmm. Soul soothing.... That's actually a tough one.
I rarely listen to music for soothing, but rather for distraction.
I don't try to soothe the soul, so much as to change the mood; and, I find it preferable to go up, rather than down...
So, I avoid the depressing stuff: no Shawn Colvin, Natalie Merchant, Francis Dunnery - you know, real wrist slashers.
Instead, I guess it's more the 'sour grapes' of music or 'eff you, who needs you anyway' kind of soothing....
But, I'll admit that I don't go cold turkey and just jump in to it cold turkey. Songs that start mooshie, and end perky or powerful.

Depeche Mode or, better yet, Love & Rockets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwT2Yiny9F4
(I'd probably reach for Ball of Confusion for the mood altering, but I cannae resist the 'I'm Alive' video)
Damn, some of the related videos are so depressing, I now require some soul soothing.... Better kill somethin
